Our Journey and Purpose
Construction Safety Academy was born out of real-world experience and the recognition that safety professionals need more than compliance-based training. Our journey began with seeing firsthand the struggles of safety leaders left to learn through trial and error. Today, our purpose is clear: to equip construction safety professionals with the knowledge, skills, and mentorship they need to thrive.
More than a training provider, we’re building a movement to revolutionize the construction safety profession.
Origin
I became a mother at 19, and that experience shaped the way I see responsibility, resilience, and the importance of building a better future. My career began in nursing, where I cultivated a systems-based way of thinking. Just as the human body relies on interconnected systems working together, I would later come to see organizations and construction projects the same way: every part affects the whole. Success depends on how well those parts are aligned.
Although it was tough to break into the industry, my unconventional background gave me an edge once I was in. I transitioned into construction first as an occupational health nurse on a mega-scale project. From there, I moved into a site safety manager role with a particularly challenging client in the life sciences. It was frequently frustrating, but the experience helped me grow quickly. Opportunity knocked not long after and I was promoted to a regional leadership position, even taking on a second struggling region for a time. I later moved to the owner’s side for a Big 4 tech company, overseeing mission critical construction at the cusp of AI’s exponential rise.
As a safety professional, I’ve grown so much thanks to the variety of challenges I faced. Those experiences showed me not just how construction and organizations work, but also where the safety profession often falls short.

Why I Built This Framework
Too often, safety professionals are expected to “figure it out” on their own. I learned much of what made me successful through trial and error, good luck with mentors, and hard lessons on challenging projects. When I first started as consulting independently, I was content to focus on what I do best as a solo agent. I kept seeing the same issues, the same ones I mentored others through when I was working for an employer:
– Field safety professionals who understood regulations but not how projects are actually delivered.
– Managers who were experts compliance but struggled with communication or influence.
– Programs that checked boxes but didn’t integrate with the realities of field operations.
– Projects gone awry, with no one to lead them safely across the finish line.
I knew our industry needed something better. That’s why I built the Construction Safety Academy framework: a systems-based, holistic approach to developing safety professionals.
